A
COUNTRY FREE FROM RACIAL SEGREGATION
Writes Mhleli Mkhize
Miracle of SA liberation |
Once upon a time long ago there was a country where people were separated by virtue of the color of their skin
South Africa now is at its 21 years of being a democratic
country. With pain and blood that saw
the bases of a liberated country slowly breaking into pieces.
27th of
April 1994 the people of the country were finally given the opportunity to vote
on its first, free and fair democratic election.
Good prevailed, justice prevailed because people insisted
on it and through a solid mission that was not to be stopped by anyone the
country finally achieved its freedom.
All colors of the rainbow moved out to accommodate, to
show how negativity can be transformed into positivity. Years and years of
people feeling that they were not equal to another race.
On Nelson Mandela’s funeral on the 18th of
December 2013 ,One of the speaker s of the day was a fellow mate of Nelson
Mandela who was imprisoned with him and was close friend Ahmed Kathrada.
Sensitively
speaking at the podium Ahmed Kathrada delivered a speech which he mentions that
“Through the work of Madiba we are lively living in a democratic country, we
are deeply grateful that dignity has been restored to all South Africans, we
are deeply grateful for a constitution in court that protects our hard earned
freedom.”
Nelson Mandela along with other prisoned and imprisoned politicians
grew up in severe pain of having to fight for the rights of the people and
through that were sent to prison for many years, the significance of a
liberated country was highlighted when people went in numbers to cast their
votes in 1994, issues of ballot boxes went missing, issues of ink being a
challenge to have and issues of transport for the ballot boxes.
Sibongekile Mbatha a young Language practice student who
is strongly involved in politics said that " I for one do not believe that
the leading party understands the needs for the people, the system of restoring
what was previously stolen from us as Africans , and for that I will say we are
far from being a liberated country.”
With the effort of these political activists the country
is now free from White and black segregation, dompass and other actions that
separated the two races. Transformation,
freedom that was never there for the people, equality, peace and the things
people were frightened for was the day the country experienced the South African
dream.
The people of South Africa recognised the injustice of
the past, honored those who suffered for justice and freedom in the land,
respected those who have worked to build and develop the country and have sense
that South Africa belongs to all who live in it.
